What to Expect on Your Orthodontic Journey
At Cloverdale Orthodontics, we believe that a beautiful smile starts with a clear plan and compassionate care. Whether you’re considering Invisalign or traditional braces, understanding the treatment process can help you feel more confident and prepared. From your first consultation to your final retainer check, our team is here to guide you every step of the way. Here’s what you can expect as we work together to create a smile you’ll love for life.
Your First Visit: Consultation & Evaluation
Your orthodontic journey begins with a comprehensive initial consultation at Cloverdale Orthodontics. During this visit, we’ll conduct a full oral examination, take X-rays, and review your dental history to understand your unique needs. Based on your diagnosis, we’ll walk you through your personalized treatment plan—including your options for braces or Invisalign, estimated treatment length, and what to expect at each stage.

Beginning Treatment: Custom Planning & Application
Once your plan is finalized, we’ll begin your orthodontic treatment. Depending on whether you choose Invisalign aligners or traditional braces, the approach will differ. Treatment timelines typically range from 8 to 48 months, depending on complexity. We'll ensure you're fully comfortable and informed about how your appliances work—whether that's the placement of brackets or receiving your first set of aligners.
Ongoing Care: Appointments & Adjustments
Throughout your treatment, you’ll attend regular check-ups so we can monitor progress and make precise adjustments. For braces, we’ll periodically tighten or adjust the wires to maintain consistent pressure. If you’re using Invisalign, you’ll receive a series of custom aligners changed approximately every two weeks. Adjustment visits are generally scheduled every 3 to 10 weeks, depending on your treatment type and progress. These visits are essential to ensure everything stays on track.

Living With Your Appliance
Day-to-day life with braces or Invisalign will come with some small changes. With braces, you’ll need to avoid sticky or hard foods and pay special attention to oral hygiene. Invisalign wearers should remember to remove aligners when eating and to clean them regularly. Our team will guide you on best practices to protect your appliance, maintain oral health, and stay comfortable during treatment.
When your teeth have reached their ideal position, it’s time to remove your braces or finish your last set of aligners. For braces, we’ll gently remove the brackets, clean any remaining adhesive, and evaluate your results. Most patients will transition into wearing a custom retainer—a crucial step to maintain your new smile. Your orthodontist will advise how long and how often to wear it. At this stage, we may also offer professional cleaning and teeth whitening, ensuring your smile is not only straight, but bright and beautiful.
